ABOUT HELEN
With a background in Fine Art and years of experience in the photographic industry, my garden designs are characterised by their sense of flow and immersive atmosphere. I’ve always been fascinated by the natural world, and I bring this together with an innate understanding of composition, colour, and texture to create harmonious spaces that are deeply connected to nature.
In 2018, I trained at the London College of Garden Design, graduating with Distinction. My final project was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Society of Garden Designers (SGD) Awards, and since then, I’ve gone on to win an SGD award for the design of a hospital rehabilitation garden. My gardens are recognised for their level of detail, creative flair, and ability to transform outdoor spaces into relaxing sanctuaries.
My artistic journey began in 2008 when I graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in Fine Art from Loughborough University. I went on to complete a Master’s at Central Saint Martins, and that artistic training still plays a big role in how I approach garden design today. It’s what helps me bring together creative ideas and a deep respect for the natural world in every project I work on.
HELEN'S DESIGN APPROACH
I love creating gardens that reflect my clients’ personalities, aspirations, and needs. It’s always exciting to surprise them with features they didn’t know they wanted until they see them on the drawing board. Each garden I design is deeply connected to its surroundings, whether through inspiration drawn from the local landscape, plant communities, architecture, or often a combination of all three. My goal is to craft spaces that feel personal, authentic, and in harmony with their environment.
I’m continually inspired by wild landscapes and the sense of curiosity and exploration they awaken in us. I aim to bring that same spirit to my designs, creating gardens that invite discovery and encourage people to engage with their surroundings in meaningful and joyful ways.
Sustainability is at the core of my work. I’m committed to reusing and recycling materials wherever possible, appreciating the character and story that come with materials that have a history. I also prioritise sourcing locally—not just to reduce the carbon footprint but to root each project in its place and tell a richer story about where it belongs. For me, designing gardens isn’t just about creating beautiful spaces; it’s about fostering a positive connection between people and the planet.
