KINGSWOOD GARDEN
Surrey
This garden was already defined by its hardscape when we were brought in to design the planting beds. Our vision was for an English country garden, where the formality of clipped topiary meets the softness of perennials and grasses, creating a serene and elegant backdrop that complements the Georgian architecture.
Layered borders with structure
Curved planting beds sweep across the lawn, offering a gentle contrast to the clean lines of the terrace and house. Their generous depth allows for layered planting, where Hydrangeas, Mediterranean perennials, and ornamental grasses mingle with the evergreen structure of domed topiary. A fragrant Lavender bed beside the house adds scent, colour, and seasonal interest, bringing a quiet charm to the space.
Multi-stem trees punctuate the garden with vertical structure, drawing the eye upward and providing seasonal delights—from blossom in spring to berries and autumnal tones later in the year.
Defining areas with planting
The terrace, a key outdoor living space, has been subtly divided into distinct zones with powder-coated planters, while stoneware pots mark each entrance, framing views with greenery and encouraging exploration. Climbers on the fencing weave the garden into its surroundings, creating a sense of continuity and making the space feel larger and more connected to the landscape beyond.
Creating a sense of arrival
In the front garden, we aimed to craft a welcoming sense of arrival. The former dominating conifers were replaced with clipped Yew domes, soft evergreen grasses, and a refined palette of perennial colour. Evergreen structure provides year-round form and texture, while delicate pops of seasonal colour create a sophisticated, ever-changing display.
The result is a garden that feels both timeless and alive, offering structure, scent, and seasonal beauty, while harmonising effortlessly with the home and its setting.
