Integrating Rainwater Harvesting Into a Living Landscape

This space has been designed as a rain garden, creating a connection between visitors and nature through both atmosphere and the natural processes that sustain it. At its center lies a pool that collects rainwater, fed by rills channeling water from downpipes integrated into the building’s cladding.

The visible water flow emphasizes the garden’s core function, allowing visitors to observe and understand the rainwater harvesting process even during dry spells. This adds an educational element, fostering awareness of sustainable water use.

The planting scheme features a moisture-loving meadow, combining native wetland species with select low-maintenance non-native plants. Designed to evolve naturally over time, the meadow encourages a dynamic coexistence of species, while ground cover softly creeps over the concrete joints. The informal, flowing planting contrasts beautifully with the solid lines of the concrete paving and benches, creating a balanced and inviting space.
