WORCESTER PARK GARDEN DESIGN
South West London
A secluded oasis connecting with the woodland beyond
This garden enjoyed wonderful views onto mature woodland on one side, but like so many gardens was heavily overlooked in places. Trees and vertical planting were added to build on this woodland feel, improving the sense of privacy and seclusion as well as connecting with the landscape beyond.
Outdoor Living
The existing terrace was quite restrictive in size, so it was expanded to allow for a more spacious dining and cooking experience. An adjoining terrace was added with relaxed sofa seating and fire pit – the perfect spot to enjoy an evening cocktail by the fire. A corner pergola frames the area with a transparent green vertical ‘wall’, and a bubbling water feature adds to the tranquil feel.

A lawn provides space for relaxation and play whilst a plank stepping stone path provided a permeable yet solid route between the two terraces. The linear repetition picks up on the vertical lines of the pergola and repeated single stem trees – a formal quality which contrasts with the soft, informal perennial planting and multi-stem tree. This is reflected again in the topiary loosely scattered throughout the beds, providing evergreen structure throughout the year. A palette of blues and purple perennials adds a further layer of seasonal interest.
